In 2007 wordt Ian Noe laureaat van het Appalachian concours in Hazard Kentucky met de bekroonde song Don’t Let The Morning Bring Ya Down. Off This Mountain Top komt zeven jaar later uit en dat epeetje leidt naar een eerste  volwaardig werkstuk. Between The Country komt onder hoede  van producer Dave Cobb tot stand, die onvolprezen studioman tilt het songwerk met fraai gitaarwerk op. In een warme analoge productie van Andrija Tockic, die samenwerkte met Margo Price en Alabama Shakes, wordt in The Bomb Shelter Studio in Nashville die countryneske sound verder opengetrokken met een ruimere instrumentatie.
