Het uit Indiana afkomstige Durand Jones & The Indications maakte al twee onweerstaanbare albums  (Durand Jones & The Indications en American Love Call) met onvervalste retrosoul. Met hun derde, Private Space, voegen ze daar een, door disco en funk geleide, nieuwe ijzersterke aan toe. Albumopener Love Will Work It Out is gelijk al zo’n onvervalste soulslijper zoals Jones en zijn makkers die ook al op hun eerste albums zo mooi lieten horen. De sfeer is nog net iets losser en het strijkersarrangement met strijkers is net iets meer aangedikt. Met de uptempo album opvolgtrack Witchoo duiken ze dan diep de funky disco in.
