More a Legend Than A Band was het vroegste werk van dit Texaanse trio dat ik ooit beluisterde ergens in de vroege jaren negentig, vormde min of meer de voorbode van de alt.country stroming . De oorspronkelijke langspeler All American Music met opnamesessies uit ‘72 werd bijna twintig jaar later, aangevuld met extra tracks, volop beschikbaar. Ondertussen waren die Flatlanders , afzonderlijk op het solopad verzeild, vandaar de bijzonder toepasselijke titel. Zowel Jimmie Dale Gilmore als zijn jeugdvriend Butch Hancock toerde beginjaren negentig in het clubcircuit met passages in de AB Club, Joe Ely figureerde op de grotere festivalpodia met begeleidingsband. Sporadisch  komen de iconen van The Lone Star State...
