Niemand had kunnen bevroeden dat het vervreemdende en allesbehalve lichtvoetige When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? van de toen slechts 17-jarige Billie Eilish zo’n fenomeen zou worden. Eilish wist, in een symbiotische creatieve samenwerking met haar broer Finneas, de gevoelswereld van tieners wereldwijd te raken en muzikaal ook nogal wat bakens te verzetten. Zodat de definitie van ‘popmuziek’ ook behoorlijk werd opgerekt. Op tweede album Happier Than Ever toont ze dat ze zich niet in een hokje laat stoppen. De visuele stijl is radicaal omgegooid en zowel muzikaal als tekstueel raakt ze nu andere thema’s. Soms heel subtiel, zoals in de muziek. Het is wederom broer Finneas...
