De Beninese Angelique Kidjo komt op Mother Nature voor het eerst sinds 2015 met nieuw eigen materiaal. In de tussentijd bracht ze interpretaties uit van het werk van de Cubaanse ‘queen of salsa’ Celia Cruz en coverde ze de Talking Heads klassieker Remain In Light integraal. Er gebeurde dus zeker nog wel wat interessants de afgelopen zes jaar. Kidjo omringt zich op Mother Nature, haar veertiende album alweer, met vele (jonge) gastmuzikanten en -vocalisten. Daarmee staat de in 1960 geboren zangeres helemaal in het hier en nu.
