Op het tweede The Beta Band album kiezen ze ervoor om de langere nummers te schrappen. Hierdoor hou je langer geconcentreerd de aandacht erbij. Ze verrijken op Hot Shots II het geluid, al gaat dit wel ten koste van de kenmerkende humor. Het toegankelijke Squares heeft een twijfelachtige begin en ontwikkelt zich tot het betere triphop recyclingproces. Zelfs de rommelige pianotoetsen krijgen een frisse oppoetsbehandeling. En dan ben je al snel niet meer dat eigenzinnige grappige bandje. Geen vreemde wengingen maar een logische Al Sharp overgang, er wordt door middel van echo’s en Indiase invloeden hetzelfde dromerige effect opgeroepen.
