De eerste helft van de jaren negentig werd gekleurd door een onvergetelijke golf aan Amerikaanse gitaarbands die ook de Nederlandse podia, dansvloeren, tv en radio bevolkten. Naast de grote namen als Nirvana, Pearl Jam en Smashing Pumpkins kwam er nog veel meer deze kant op: Buffalo Tom, Screaming Trees, Sonic Youth, The Posies, Sugar, Bad Religion, Dinosaur Jr., Afghan Whigs, Pavement, Freedy Johnston, Matthew Sweet en Pixies, om maar een greep te doen. Het kon niet op. Deze muzikanten profiteerden dan wel van de sinds Nirvana’s succes breed aangewakkerde belangstelling voor gitaarrock, ze waren vaak al langer actief en hadden in een aantal gevallen al een stevige fan base opgebouwd....
