Drie jaar geleden maakte saxofonist Dave McMurray zijn Blue Note debuut Music is Life, een album volledig gevuld met eigen composities. Zijn tweede voor het label is een geheel andere aangelegenheid: Een album vol interpretaties van Grateful Dead songs: Grateful Deadication. Blue Note baas Don Was en McMurray (niet te vergissen met jazzlegende Dave Murray) kennen elkaar nog van de band Was (Not Was) waar hij de belangrijke saxofonist in was.
