Lovey was in 1990 het vierde album van Lemonheads. Hoewel de band uit Boston, vier jaar daarvoor opgericht, inmiddels een aardige bekendheid had opgebouwd met hun grove, onversneden en punky indierock – inclusief een rauwe cover van Suzanne Vega’s Luka - bleef een doorbraak uit. Er borrelde natuurlijk wel het een en ander in en om Boston: Throwing Muses, Buffalo Tom, Moving Targets en natuurlijk Pixies gaven dit al overduidelijk aan. Lemonheads moest toch zeker kunnen profiteren van de aandacht voor Boston als muziekstad. Na drie albums op het Taang! label, ook uit Boston, kwam Lovey in de zomer van 1990 uit op major Atlantic.
