Soms voel je aan alles dat een band het in zich heeft iets magisch moois te maken, zijn hun composities over het algemeen al dusdanig mooi dat je er met aandacht, enthousiasme, misschien zelfs liefde, naar luistert. Big Big Train maakte in hun geschiedenis al een aantal malen mooie albums. Met Woodcut zetten ze voor zichzelf een nieuwe standaard én wel met een bijzonder mooi conceptalbum. Het is de kracht én veerkracht van de band dat Woodcut zó mooi is geworden: het overlijden van frontman David Longdon bracht destijds vragen over de toekomst van de band met zich mee.
