Met hun derde album Expanding to One bewijst het uit Los Angeles afkomstige Phi-Psonics wederom dat het Britse Gondwana Records hun terechte basis is. Geen ander label weet nieuwe vormen van spiritual jazz steeds weer zulk fraai nieuw leven in te blazen. Hoe fijn hun eerste twee platen al waren, met Expanding to One, album nummer drie, overtreffen ze hun voorgaande albums. De band rondom contrabassist Seth Ford-Young heeft zich sinds hun samenkomst in 2016 in oostelijk Los Angeles, ontwikkeld tot één van meest interessante bands binnen de Amerikaanse spiritual jazz.
