De IJslandse Emilíana Torrini bewandelt een veelzijdig, maar ook lastig pad. Haar eerste Crouçie D'où Là album is een gevarieerde, maar ook best zoete country blues plaat. Toch voelt het net niet helemaal puur en vertrouwd aan. Dit stigma draagt ze altijd met zich mee, al kiest ze vervolgens op Love in the Time of Science voor meer experimentele folkloristische triphop. Haar Fisherman’s Woman meesterwerk is intiem en sober van opzet. Ze scoort met het zomerse Jungle Drum indiepop een internationale megahit en het prachtige intrigerende Gollum’s Song verschijnt op de The Lord of the Rings soundtrack.
