Ergens in de jaren negentig  had ik het geluk om de Texaanse countryoutlaw Billy Joe Shaver op het podium te bewonderen in een Brusselse club en in ‘97 zag ik hem terug op een bijkomend Giants Rock’n Roll luik tijdens het destijds nog onder de noemer Belgium Rhythm’n ‘Blues Festival georganiseerde festival in Peer. Naast Little Richard Chuck Berry en Bo Diddley prijkte Jerry Lee Lewis op de affiche, de ‘Killer’ stuurde zijn kat en zo mocht Billy Joe samen met zoon Eddy een onder de naam Shaver openen. Eddy leerde op jonge leeftijd de kneepjes van de gitaar van Dickey Betts van The Allman Brothers Band  en begeleidde vaders...
