Eigenlijk zou het nieuwe Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings album al voor de zomer van 2013 uitkomen maar toen bij Jones een nogal heftige vorm van kanker werd geconstateerd werd de release van het album natuurlijk opgeschoven. Enige tijd leek het zelfs zo slecht met Jones te gaan dat gevreesd werd voor het voortbestaan van de band. Gelukkig is Jones langzaamaan hersteld en gaat de band vanaf februari weer op tour. En nog beter: Met hun nieuwe album Give The People What They Want wordt volledig duidelijk waarom Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings de meest relevante soulband van de laatste jaren is.
