Als een artiest ouder werk opnieuw onder handen neemt, is het veelal in een vlaag van creatieve armoede. Er moet een nieuw album komen, dan maar jezelf coveren. Bij voorkeur met een orkest om er nog iets van sjeu aan te geven. De resultaten zijn doorgaans saai (Robbie Williams’ XXV), bij vlagen interessant (New Blood van Peter Gabriel) of in elke poging mislukt (zowel Symphonicities van Sting). Maar zonder orkest is het ook nog regelmatig een beproeving. Zie bijvoorbeeld My Songs van – wederom – Sting, of U2’s geestdodende Songs Of Surrender. Al zijn er natuurlijk ook artiesten die van het opnieuw opnemen van eigen werk een kunst hebben gemaakt,...
