Na een succesvolle periode bij Mike & The Mechanics werkte hij samen met Nick Lowe , er was sessiewerk voor Elton John, Roxy Music en een tournee met Eric Clapton. Sinds 1980 stuurt Carrack solowerk de wereld in, naast dat ‘reguliere’ pop- en rockwerk volgen er registraties met de Royal Philharmonic Orchestra en regelmatig duiken projecten met de SWR Big Band op.
